Private LAWRENCE POLOMKA, second son of Mr. J. Polomka, Seven Hills, was killed in action in France on September 20, He, with his younger brother, embarked on August 12, 1916, after being in camp three months. He was born at Nackara, and educated at Seven Hills East School. Prior to enlisting he was employed on Mr. Scott's farm, Lipson. Private Polomka was 28 years of age.

POWER, Harold SeptimusLieutenant
Studio portrait of Honorary Lieutenant Harold Septimus Power. Born in Dunedin, New Zealand, in 1877, Power migrated to Australia with his family. Following initial training in art in Melbourne, Power settled in Adelaide in 1898 where he became an illustrator for the Observer, the Register and the Critic. From 1905 to 1907 he studied at the Acadamie Julian in Paris. He then moved to London where he became a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Oils, and the Society of Animal Painters. During the First World War he was appointed Official War Artist attached to the 1st Division AIF from September 1917 to March 1920. Power was subsequently engaged on various commissions for the Australian War Memorial until 1938, travelling frequently between Australia and England during this period. www.awm.gov.au P09558.001 |
