'This NCO is brought to notice for his gallant conduct and devotion to duty during the attack on 18th September 1918 on Le Verguiher N W of St. Quentin.  With his section he was responsible for liasion and touch with the flanking Company of another Battalion, and despite very adverse weather conditions and ????? from the barrage he maintained touch throughout the whole operation.
Just prior to reaching the final objective he was wounded by an enemy bomber but refused to go back to the dressing station until the objective had been gained and the situation quietened.  Throughout the whole operation he showed an absolute contempt for personal danger and his example of cheeriness and courage inspired all his comrades.  He is strongly recommended for distinction.'
