Private Frederick James Stanley Mead departed Australia 20 October 1914  - a 24 year old wharf builder, was the son of Elizabeth Mead of Semaphore. During the course of the war he earnt the DCM and MC and returned to Australia a Captain.
For many years Fred Mead marched at the head of the 10th Battalion on Anzac Day.

Archie returned on the Euripides on 15 March 1919 from Kautara and arrived back in Australia on the 15 April 1919 and was at the 15 Australian General Hospital Torrens Park on the 22 April 1919. 
He was medical discharged on 21 July 1919.
