A farm hand, from Brooklands, Balingup, Western Australia, aged 20 years,  he enlisted on 14 May 1915, Bridgetown, Western Australia stating his next of kin as Mrs Alice Lea Maclaren of 100 Domain St, South Yarra. Victoria
He embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia, on board HMAT A68 Anchises on 2 September 1915
Duncan died of wounds (bullet wound to chest)  6 August 1916 at the 3rd LHF Ambulance hospital Hod Hassantin, Egypt. His His wound was received on the 5th August 1916 in the Harusah engagement at Hod- el - Fatir, Egypt
He was originally buried at Bir-el- Nagid, Egypt and exhumed and reburied at the Kantara War Memorial Cemetery (Row E, Grave No. 462), Egypt

Sir John McLeay (1893-1982), politician and businessman, was born on 23 November 1893 at Port Clinton, South Australia, second of six children of Australian-born parents George McLeay, farmer, and his wife Marguaretta, née Barton. Educated at Port Clinton and Unley public schools, Jack left at 14; he worked as an errand boy, attended Muirden  College and became a commercial traveller.

Enlisting in the Australian Imperial Force on 13 May 1915, McLeay served in medical units on Lemnos, in Egypt and on the Western Front. As a stretcher-bearer with the 13th Field Ambulance, he was awarded the Military Medal for bravery near Villers-Bretonneux, France, on 24 April 1918. Discharged from the AIF on 17 October 1919

He was educated at St. Peter's College, Adelaide and joined the service of the Bank at Port Adelaide on 13th April, 1914.  He was transferred to Broken Hill in February 1915, and enlisted on 30th December 1916.
On arrival in France he joined the 50th Battalion, with which he acted as stretcher bearer.  In the latter part of April, 1918, when the Australian Forces were stemming the German attack on Amiens the 50th Battalion was very hard fighting, in the course of which Private MacMILLAN was awarded the Military Medal for bravery and devotion to duty while stretcher bearing in the neighbourhood of Villers-Bretonneux.
Returned to Australia "Port Napier" 17 May 1919.

Trooper EDWARD (Ned) McPHERSON, who was killed in action in Palestine on November 11, was the youngest son of Mrs. M. McPherson, and brother of Mrs. W. Johnston, Kenilworth-road, Parkside. He enlisted In Broken Hill in November, 1916, and left for Egypt in February. He offered himself about two years ago, but was rejected. He was 27 years old, and left a large circle of friends. His elder brother, Harry, is in camp.

McWATERS, Clarence Gordon

Born 27 December 1894 at Redruth, SA
Son of George Maylands WA, and was married to Hilda Tomlinson, daughter of Thomas and Beatrice Tomlinson, of 5 Coode Street, Maylands, in February, 1917. They had two children. He enlisted on 1st January, 1915, and embarked for Egypt three months later. He was on Gallipoli for several months with the 10th Light Horse, and was then invalided home on account of enteric fever. After he recovered he went back to Egypt and rejoined his regiment, going through the Palestine campaign with them. He then contracted malaria fever and was sent back to Australia after the signing of the Armistice totally unfit for active service. Altogether he saw over four years' service.
