While B Company 59th Battalion was advancing to drive the enemy out of Delsaux Farm, C.S.M. Harrington volunteered to go ahead and reconcile the position. He did so, and took up a position commanding the best observation, but which was a most exposed and dangerous one.  While lying there observing C.S.M. Harrington was wounded, but remained at his post three hours, afterwards giving extremely valuable information.  He was exposed to heavy and accurate machine gun fire and to constant sniping.  The action greatly contributed to the success of the operation, which resulted in the position and important documents being captured.'

THE LATE LIEUTENANT FREDERICK HARVEY.
The late Lieutenant Frederick Harvey, killed in action on November 12 in Palestine, was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Harvey, King's Park.   He was one of the first to enlist from South Australia with the Light Horse, and at the time was eighteen years of age.   He sailed with the lst Expeditionary Force from Australia for Egypt.   Later he accompanied his unit to Gallipoli on May 2, 1915, and fought throughout that campaign until the evacuation.   Subsequently he took an active part in the heavy fighting in Egypt, where the Australian Light Horse distinguished themselves so conspicuously.  The young soldier, through his devotion to duty, soldierly qualities, and gallantry, was promoted on the field to the rank of lieutenant.   He waswounded in the Raffa battle.   Quickly recovering, he joined his unit again and fought through  many fierce battles up till his death at the age of 21 years 11 months after over three years active service.   Fred (as he was known by many) was a prominent lacrosseur, and played with the Goodwood team.   He was a member of the Goodwood Presbyterian Young Men's Bible Class.    Prior to enlisting he was employed on the staff  of Messrs. Colton, Palmer, & Preston.   He was of  a bright, cheerful disposition, and made many friends both in civil and military life, and the loss of this fine example of Australian manhood  is keenly felt.   His elder brother, Lieutenant  J. McF. Harvey, has been, on active service from the beginning of the war.

'On 1-9-1918 and 2-9-1918 during the attack on Peroene he was acting as Intelligence and Bombing Officer.  He went forward to the front five times during this period to obtain information. In each case he visited all Company Commanders and obtained accurate information regarding the situation, and each time he risked his life.  On two occasions he had to crawl 300 yards under heavy M G fire to reach 'B' Company.  On the morning of 2-9-1918 when the situation was obscure, he volunteered to go forward.  He took a runner with him, but half way up, on account of the heavy shelling, placed the runner in a dug-out and proceeded alone.  He returned in an exhausted condition with the affects of  as, with an accurate situation report which was of great value.  He afterwards went forward and bandaged up a number of wounded men, and directed the stretcher bearers to very isolated wounded men whom he had located during his reconnaisance in the morning.  I strongly recommend his for a Military Cross.'
