Private E. J. (Jim) GALE was born at Yacka on February 8, 1888, and received his education at Watts Range public school. He enlisted on March 15, 1916, and left for England on June 9 of the same year with the 43rd Battalion. When his battalion went to France in November last he was left behind in hospital, ill, but on recovering he rejoined his unit in January of this year, and had been in the trenches from then till October 27, when he received the wound which proved fatal. For 14 years prior to enlisting Private Gale had been employed on the farm of Mr. T. J. Harvey, at Yacka.

Gunner 11th Field Ambulance Brigade Youngest son of John Bailey & Mary Gard (nee Morphett). Born 5 Aug 1896 Adelaide, South Australia. Occupation prior to enlistment Cycle & Motor Mechanic.
