Godfrey known as 'snowy' because of his blonde hair, joined the 5th Pioneers Regiment on 07 March 1916 and went to Europe to fight in WWI. He was discharged from his regiment on 11 October 1919. It is believed he suffered from gas inhalation throughout his life, and even though he married twice, he had no children.
