He was a labourer in Pt Pirie when he enlisted.
Enlisted 16 September 1914; attached to the 16th Btn he fought at Gallipoli from 20/5/15 to 16/7/15 when he was wounded. Shipped to England, & back to Australia in June 1916.
Transferred to the 48th Btn he was shipped back to England in February 1917, and on to France in January 1918. He was wounded on 23/6/18 near Sailly-le-Sec & evacuated to Crouy Sur-Somme (west of Ameins), where he died of wounds on 25 June 1918.

Bernard worked as a clerk prior to enlisting at Adelaide on 11 March 1916.
He embarked from Australia on board HMAT Ballarat on 12 August 1916 with the 8th Reinforcements and saw service on the Western Front where he was twice wounded in action. 
Bernard returned to Australia aboard HMAT Aeneas arriving in Melbourne and transported to Adelaide arriving on 13 February 1919 and was discharged on 25 March 1919.

He embarked from Australia aboard HMAT Matakuta on 27 June 1916 with the 7th Reinforcements and saw service on the Western Front with 32nd Battalion before transferring to the 43rd Battalion. 
James was repatriated to England on 2 December 1916 with acute influenza and then invalided to Australia with acute influenza aboard Hospital Ship Karoola, arriving on 15 March 1917. 
James was discharged as medically unfit for further service duties on 11 September 1917.
