He embarked from Adelaide on board HMAT Boonah on 22 October 1918 but the troopship was recalled due to cessation of hostilities and William was returned to Australia arriving on 20 December 1918 and he was discharged on 31 January 1919.

Occupation prior to enlistment – Farmer
Enlisted on November 30, 1914 at Oaklands, South Australia and was sent to Egypt and Gallipoli as a Trooper with the 9th Light Horse Brigade.  He became ill with influenza and was returned to Australia aboard the “Beltana” in September, 1915.
He re-enlisted on September 26, 1917 and was sent to France where he was wounded on April 24, 1918 at Meteren.  He was invalided to England suffering gunshot wounds to the left thigh and was returned to Australia aboard the “Borda” in October, 1918.

Born 12 August 1893 at Paddington, SA.  Son of George William WRIGHT & Louise Annie nee NEPEANMr. and Mrs. G .W. Wright of Clapton Road, Marryatville, have been notified that their son, Private G.H. Wright, was killed in action in France on August 16.  Prior to enlisting he was employed at Dunstan's quarry, Burnside.  He was born at Rosewater and was 23 years of age.  He was a skillful boxer, and won a boxing tournament in Egypt.  Private Wright was a member of the Marryatville Football Club.
