He was discharged in December, 1917 He died on February 7, 1964 and is buried at the Cheltenham Cemetery.

Born on May 27, 1888 at Alberton, South Australia Son of Agnes Helena (nee Bowden) and Patrick O’Brien Occupation prior to enlistment – Storekeeper Enlisted on July 14, 1916 at Adelaide, South Australia Served in France He was wounded at Bullecourt on April 11, 1917. Although severely wounded he refused to leave his mate who was wounded in the leg and assisted him to safety. He died of his wounds at Reincourt on the same day aged 28. He has no known grave but is commemorated at the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France.

Born on February 8, 1886 at Alberton, South Australia Son of Agnes Helena (nee Bowden) and Patrick O’Brien Occupation prior to enlistment – Labourer Enlisted on January 4, 1916 at Adelaide, South Australia Served in France He was wounded on 7th April, 1917 but returned to the firing line to look for his brother who was reported missing. He was wounded twice at Messines on June 7, 1917 and died of wounds the same day aged 31. He has no known grave but is commemorated at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.

Born on October 8, 1892 at Alberton, South Australia Son of Agnes Helena (nee Bowden) and Patrick O’Brien Occupation prior to enlistment – Ship’s purser Enlisted on December 9, 1914 at Oaklands, South Australia Served in Egypt, Gallipoli, Flanders, France and Belgium Killed in action on April 9, 1917 aged 24 whilst leading his men at Louverval, having taken his men safely over and gained his objective.
The following is an extract from a letter received by Mrs. O’Brien from Col. S. Price Weir: “I find that your late son, Lieut. W. O’Brien, took part in the fighting on Gallipoli, Pozieres (1916), Flers, Le Barque and Louverval. For about 12 months before Will was given his commission, he was my orderly-room sergeant. He was a beautiful penman and very accurate in all his returns; always cheerful and industrious.”
