James Jordan originally joined the 32nd Battalion which had been raised as part of the 8th Brigade at Mitcham, on the outskirts of Adelaide, on 9 August 1915. Only two companies were raised from South Australian enlistees – another two were formed in Western Australia and joined the battalion at the end of September. The battalion sailed from Adelaide on 18 November 1915. On Anzac Day 1916 James transferred to the 47th Battalion and arrived in France on 9 June 1916. The 47th entered the trenches of the Western Front for the first time on 3 July fighting at Pozieres. It was at this battle that James again transferred to the 4th Pioneer Battalion on the 15th July. He was killed in action several weeks later on 3rd August. James Jordan enlisted as a 32 year old widower with 3 children. Although born in Macclesfield – work took him to the South East. His children were fostered out to 3 families – and upon his death – the two youngest applied and received a small pension. Lucy was brought up in Pt Elliott and Mary in Halifax Street Adelaide. Minnie Cecilia his oldest did not receive any assistance. James Andrew Jordan's name is located at panel 174 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial. Son of John & Bridget Jordan of Macclesfield. James married Minnie Teresa O’Loughlin 5/9/1894, they had four children - Minnie Cecilia 31/10/1897, Kathleen Ellen 30/8/1899, Mary Doris 31/1/1902, Lucy Irene 28/8/1904 then Mary died on 1/2/1907

THE LATE PRIVATE JOSE.
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Jose, of Wayville West, have received information from the military authorities that their second son Prívale Harold Newlyn Jose who was reported missing on July 20, I916 was killed in action on that date. He was 23 years of age, and enlisted in July 1915. He sailed vith the 32nd Battilion in November. He was in the employ of Messrs. Hitchcox Bros., and was a member of the Halifax street Methodist Church. A younger brother enlisted at the same time and is still on service
