He was awarded the Military Medal
“For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty under very heavy shell fire on the Ypres Menin Road on 25th September, 1917. During very heavy shell fire he showed utmost disregard of danger and was instrumental in forwarding munitions and supplies to the front with expedition. He was severely wounded by shell fire on 25th September, 1917 in the execution of his duty.”
He returned to Australia aboard the “Kashmir” in March, 1919.
He died on March 6, 1968

Medical Practitioner Australian Army Medical Corps Born 5 October 1880 in Monmouthshire, Wales. He served for 7 years in the 3rd South Wales Borderers. He enlisted on the 1 March 1915 in Mitcham, South Australia and gave his next of kin as his wife, Evelyn James C/- WH Marsden of Victor Harbour, South Australia. He embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A48 Seang Choon on 11 February 1915 serving with the 1st Australian General Hospital in Egypt. Suffering with chronic dysentery, he was returned to Australia on 4 August 1916 per HS Karoola for a 4-month break. His appointment was terminated on 15 May 1917. He was reappointed to the AIF on 8 July 1918 and embarked for overseas on 27 July 1918 on board A30 Borda, again serving in Egypt. .
