Harold worked as a labourer prior to his enlistment at Adelaide on 3 January 1916. 
He embarked from Adelaide on board HMAT Afric with B Company of 43rd Battalion and saw service on the Western Front where, in January 1917 he was wounded in the right arm and repatriated to England returning to the Western front in August 1917. 
He was again wounded in May 1918. 
Harold returned to Australia on board HMAT Konigin Louise arriving on 10 August 1919 and was discharged on 25 September 1919.

He was the son of John Edson and the the step brother of Albert Bamblett (32 Btn) and step son to Minnie Edson (Alberts mother)  He enlisted in September of 1915 (along with Albert) and left for overseas in Feb 1916 (along with Albert) aboard HMAT Miltiades.
Arthur was Killed in Action in July 1918 .
Having lost their sons - John and Minnie moved to Waikerie in the Riverland shortly after the war.
Killed in Action 4th July 1918 aged 21 years.

'At POZIERES, FRANCE, during the early morning of 22nd. August the enemy had been attacked near MOUQUET FARM, whilst endeavouring to consolidate the trench gained, the telephone wire between Battalion Headquarters and the front line was broken by shell fire. It was most essential that communication should be established and Cpl. EDWARDS was detailed to repair the line. Under a heavy barrage he went along the trenches until he discovered the break in the wire which he repaired. Upon another occasions during the operations between 20/23rd. August this N.C.O. brought two reels of telephone wire forward under heavy fire.'
