'For conspicuous courage and devotion to duty during period from August 1918 to October 1918 - During the attack near Hamel, this Officer commanded one of the assaulting Companies of his Battalion. By prompt decision and keen appreciation of the situation, when part of his Company was held up, he personally led his reserve Platoon to a Flank position form which it was able to advance on to, and mop up, the opposition.
During the last two years, Captain Cope has acted as a Company Commander with consistent ability and success. He has taken part in the battles of Messines, Warneton and the Operations of the Somme.'
