'On the 12th August 1918, near Bray-Sur-Somme this NCO with one man curried out a daring daylight patrol and located the positions of several hostile machine guns. During the night 12/13th August he took out a fighting patrol of 15 men which he led with exceptional courage and dash. Against strong opposition he captured a hostile machine gun with some of the crew. In spite of a determined effort of the enemy with superior numbers to re-capture the gun he fought his way back to our lines without losing the captured gun or his prisoners.'

'On 13 September 18 near Le Verguier N W of St. Quentin this NCO showed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty whilst in charge of his platoon in a night advance. The platoon came under very heavy machine gun fire from the enemy who were strongly entrenched, but this NCO with determination, and setting a high example of bravery, led his men forward and gained the objective. the enemy then counter attacked him strongly and although he had but a few men his determination, fearlessness, and cheerfulness in keeping his men together, was undoubtedly the cause of the platoon being able to hold on and consolidate the position. As a result of this operation, heavy casualties were inflicted on the enemy and two machine guns captured. This NCO has already been recommended for a MM.'

The Body of Frank Meeten Bradshaw (32) who has been missing from his parent's residence at Hawthorn since March 10, was recovered from the Yarra today. The hands were tied, and had a piece of lead piping and a pick attached to them. The deceased had been at the front, and held the rank of Captain in the Dental Corps. Trooper 10th Light Horse Regiment Born 31 May 1882 in Kooringa, Burra SA Son of Edward Foster BRADY & Harriett Ann nee WHITE. Trooper Edgar Vernon Brady was a native of Burra in South Australia, and was part of the 10th light horse regiment. He was killed in action on 7 August 1915. When he enlisted his family address was 56 Shepperton Road, Victoria Park, WA, but the address from his memorial is North Beach Road, Leederville, W.A. He was a plumber, married, and left Fremantle on HMAT Itonus as part of the second reinforcements of the 3rd and 10th light horse regiments. He too has no known grave, and is memorialised at the Lone Pine Memorial in Gallipoli. After his death, his family were asked for details about his live, in which he was noted to have served in the South African War 1899-1902 in the 4th West Australian Commonwealth light horse regiment. Henry married in 1926 Brose taught physics for the academic year at the University of Sydney. On this visit he met an Adelaide friend Jean Halliday Robertson, an actress who was touring Australia, and married her on 14 May 1927 at the register office, St Marylebone, London.
Henry Brose graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1909 with a B.Sc. and, after a period teaching French at Prince Alfred College, was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship in 1913. Brose became interested in the Theory of Relativity after meeting Einstein while interned as a civilian prisoner in Germany between 1914 and 1919. Awarded a Ph.D. in Mathematics at Oxford in 1925, Brose went on to hold a number of academic positions including Lecturer in Physics at the University of Sydney 1926 and Professor of Physics at University College Nottingham 1931-1936. When Einstein visited University College Nottingham in 1930 and 1931, Brose acted as his interpreter. Between 1920 and 1936 he translated a number of German physics texts into English. Later Brose worked in cancer research, holding positions as a physicist, a pathologist and a biochemist, and in Sydney from 1939 to 1965. Brose underwent a second period of internment in NSW and Victoria between 1940 and 1943.

When the enemy barrage dropped, Pte Brown stayed in an exposed position and acted as observer, giving accurate information of the enemy’s movements. Later, during an attack, he handled his Lewis gun with accuracy, and frequently moved his position under heavy fire to take up a more advantageous one. His bearing throughout was magnificent, and his deadly shooting helped considerably in beating off the enemy." Killed in action on May 3, 1918 at Monument Wood, Villers, France aged 23. OBITUARY
Dr. E.A. Brummitt
The death was announced on Monday of Dr. Elliott Arthur Brummitt, of Northcote Terrace, Medindie, at the age of 54. He was the son of the late Dr.
Robert and Mrs. Brummitt, of Medindie, and was for many years well known in Adelaide medical circles. Born at Kooringa, in 1880, Dr. Brummitt was educated at Prince Alfred College, and the Adelaide University, later going to the Edinburgh Univesity, where he graduated in 1908, Returning, he was house surgeon at the Adelaide Children's Hospital before taking up private practice at Medindie. Dr. Brummitt served at the war with the l1th Field Ambulance in both Egypt and France from early in 1915 until after the armistice, and was mentioned in dispatches in April. 1918. In January, 1930, he married Miss Bertha
Kay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Kay, of Portrush road, Marryatville, who survives him. He also leaves two sons. A brother of the late Dr. Brummitt,
Dr. R. Douglas Brummitt, died last year.
